The original messaging app AOL instant messenger or AIM for short is finally shutting it's service down. Michael Albers, vice president of communications product at Oath announced that AIM would shut down on December 15th.

AIM was made by AOL back in 1997 and quickly gained popularity with teens and young adults. People had never been able to communicate as fast as they were able to with AIM. It's safe to say AIM paved the way for other popular messaging apps such as Kik,Facebook Messenger and just about every other social media's DM function. So for that we would like to thank AOL for creating AIM and keeping it open for nearly 20 years. AIM you will be missed and never forgotten.

RIP AIM May 1997- December 15th 2017
